We've seen such a difference in our daughter! The other night we noticed the light was on in her room. I went in and found her reading because she couldn't sleep. Reading! Recently she read a whole book, an actual book, for the first time. What I've noticed is her confidence - not just in reading - but in everything!
I wanted to let you know that we are seeing a difference with his speech. He is speaking more and adding colors to what he is talking about. This is new. He never would label the color of an item.
Mac never used colors in his speech until one week ago. He was telling me he doesn't like the red water slide at Big Surf but he likes the black one. He also told me that the green slide isn't working. I am so glad my comments helped with the programming. Mac has been working on colors for years and this is the first time he has used them.
I told a parent that this is definitely a commitment. A commitment in time and a financial commitment - but it is 100% worth it!
It meant so much to Sam that you were there last night (at his graduation). I just wanted to thank you again. Sam really went far becoming who he is thanks to you and your team.
I think Sam is kind of in denial about having a day without you guys too- he’s already lobbying to come back for the next school year!
Oh, that is great! Love the celeration and glad that the change worked. You can send me pics of his charts anytime. And again, I am thankful that he is with you guys. Such a relief to know that you know how important motivation is, you aren't afraid to change things around to create or keep it, and use data to know if it is working. :)
Hi Nicky! Elise took a Galileo reading test yesterday and got a 73%! She started the school year at 40%. Amazing. Amazing!!! Makes me want to cry....I'm so proud of her hard work! Thank you!!!!
Thank you so much! He was so happy and proud of himself and he told me how he realized during the reassessment that it actually was easier for him now to do that (handwriting).
So excited to continue to see his progress and I know it is because of everyone there working so hard right along with him. Thank you! Please let Carrie and Megan know I really appreciate their hard work as well
Thank you for the update! That is so great to hear about the reading program and his progress there. I was actually going to ask you where he was at with it because it seems like every other day he is telling me about a P1 or pass and they are usually in reading.
As for handwriting, I suspected that it would be slower progress from the start and am not at all surprised that it is so much more difficult for him. However, I will say that the difference in his handwriting is beyond amazing and even at this point it is a significant improvement.
Yesterday, he came home with a homework assignment to hand write a 5 paragraph report on a book they read in class. I was blown away by so many things - (1) he didn't complain about writing once and actually preferred to hand write it than type it, (2) he wrote it quickly and legibly, checking to make sure he wrote letters properly and erasing when necessary, (3) he spaced the letters, words, and lines better than I have ever seen him do, (4) he had written in his graphic organizer and was able to neatly fit his thoughts in the space which used to be impossible for him, and most importantly (5) he wrote his ideas down and never tried to shorten the words/sentences/paragraphs because it was too much to write.
What would have been a personal nightmare for both Tanner and I was a fun, easy, homework assignment. So, despite the handwriting taking longer than anticipated, he has already benefitted tremendously from all of the work there. It really has made a meaningful difference for all of us!
